The Millingtons are a small family farm with a vineyard. The Glebe Farm has been in the family for over fifty years, some four generations having farmed the land.

David Millington is a farmers son who went into large scale farm management after leaving agricultural college. He was the Estate Manager of the one of the CWS Estates, one of the largest farmers in the United Kingdom. After this he farmed on his own account and ran an argochemical company in the West Midlands region of England.

The vineyard was conceived after David Millington visited California in the United States of America on business as an agricultural consultant whilst looking at large farming machinery. The area visited was so young in history, it was realised that the family's scheduled ancient monument back home - the Glebe Farm - which was considered an agricultural liability, was attracting many archeologists and therefore to make it a viable holding, the idea of a vineyard was born. After all, it is known that the Romans grew wine at Wroxeter some 2000 years ago.

After considering the implicatation of planting on a scheduled monument, the present site of the vineyard was found suitable. This was because it was a level site well sheltered and had very free draining soil.

bottles of wineWine growing author Gillian Pearkes, who was considered an authority on wine growing in England, was contacted for advice. Over a two year period in the early 90's the family made visits to Yearlstone Vineyard, Taunton, Devon. The Millington's were given instruction on how to grow and maintain vines and how to produce wine by Gillian. Many other English and Welsh vineyards ower their existance to the late Gillain Pearkes.

On Gillian's advice, five varieties of vines were chosen, purchased and planted in 1991. The first vintage of Wroxeter Vineyard wine was produced after the 1992 harvest. It was quite an achievement in wine growing terms to have a crop so soon after planting. David and Christine Millington sold their Agrochemical business in 1993 to concentrate on running the vineyard full time. Their son Martin was trained at horticultural college and by Gillian Pearkes in wine producation and joined the family business. Soon after the Millingtons sold their family home in Shrewsbury and now live in a newly built home in the vineyard.
